KAYAAM HOUSE
TANGALLE
SRI LANKA
Can someone really get addicted to the sound of ocean waves? Because at Kayaam House, I think I did!
Located in Tangalle, in one of Sri Lanka’s most untouched neighbourhoods, Kayaam House is a former family house converted into a hotel.
With only six rooms, two suites and two residences, Kayaam House feels exactly like your very own private villa on the beach. With the only exception that you also have a spa, an ayurvedic retreat, a chef, a yoga master and all the members of the staff that during your entire stay try their best to make your every wish come true.
The Bawa-inspired spaces create an incredible harmony with the surroundings, which together with the ocean breeze and the sound of the waves form the perfect background for self-exploration, self-awareness and of course meditation!
It actually took me 37 years to try meditation but I guess I was waiting for the right place. And indeed I found it. Kayaam House is a real sanctuary where self-pampering meets Ayurveda, where hospitality meets intimacy and where palm trees meet the ocean!
You see…I usually write about arriving or checking-in at a place but in this case, I simply can’t stop thinking about leaving Kayaam House and how much I have missed it.
I have missed the incredible views. I have missed the sounds of the ocean and its wildness which kept reminding me how little we are.
I have missed the long refreshing swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and frangipani trees.
I have missed the Sri Lankan breeze, somehow unique in its kind. A breeze that kept messing my hair while bringing some freshness into my humid, misty, hot Sri Lankan days.
I have missed Kayaam House and every little detail that comes with it. Full stop.
